День Святого валентина

Урок-конкурс англійської мови в 6  класі на тему: «День Валентина для тебе і для мене» (змагання для кмітливих і розумних) / Valentine’s Day for You and Me (Contest of the Smart and Cute)

Objectives:

Educational: train the new words and expres­sions according to the topic of the lesson; teach pupils how to introduce themselves; write new words and phrases devel­oping their writing skills;

Developing: develop pupils’ writing skills; know about some Valentine's tradi­tions; learn how to celebrate Valentine's Day in a funny way.

Preparation:

Pre-write the topic of the lesson on the board.

Stick the illustrations on Valentine's Day on the board.

Decorate the classroom with red paper hearts and bright balloons.

Pre-write words about the holiday on the board.

Materials needed: Red and pink balloons. Cards with the tasks. Heart necklace.

Time: 45 minutes

LESSON PROCEDURE I.  Warming up

T. Good morning, dear boys and girls! I'm glad to see you. Are you happy to see us, your teach­ers?

Ps. Yes, we are.

T. Do you know what holiday is today?

Ps. Yes. it's Valentine's Day today because it's the fourteenth of February.

T. How do you know that it's Valentine's Day?

Ps. Because there are bright balloons and red hearts everywhere. This means that today we celebrate a very nice and pretty holiday called Valentine's Day.

T. Right you are! Welcome to our contest of the Smart and Cute! You see that our today's lesson is going to be very surprising for you. Here on the board there are beautiful words which peo­ple wish each other when they are in love, when they are happy to see their friends. By the way, I hope that all of you have many friends who love you. That's why the topic of today's lesson is "Valentine's Day for You and Me". Your class will work in two teams.

This is Team 1. Stand up, please! The cap­tain of the team is … This is Team 2. Stand up and come up here! The captain of the team is …

II. The first competition "Greeting"

T. Let's start our first competition. Each of you must introduce yourself and tell us some words about you. Come here and stand in front of the board.

Sample answer

PI. Hello! My name is Maxim. I like to ride a bike and skateboard. I can run and jump but I can't swim well. I like PT and Drawing but I don't like Mathematics. Etc. {All the pupils tell the jury about themselves.)

T. Thank you. The results of the first competi­tion are the following. All the teams were very good. Team 1 gets 5 points. Team 2 gets 5 points too. Etc.

III.    The second competition
"Holiday words"

T. Now let's pass to the second competition. It consists of four stages.

Stage 1: At first you have to find 12 valentine words in the world search. The winner will be the one who will find all the words the quick­est... Well, team 1 gets 3 points. Team 2 gets 2 points and team 1 gets one point.

Stage 2: Each team will get a card with scrambled words connected with Valentine's Day. Your task is to unscramble them as soon as possible...
Your results are the following: Team 1 gets
_  points. Team 2 gets    point. Etc.

Stage 3: Now your task is to find the missing let­ters in the Valentine words. The teams get the following points: Team 1 — three points, Team 2 — two points, Team 3 — one point.

Stage 4: Next task is to match 10 Valentine words to their pictures. Etc.

IV.    The third competition
"Pass the Necklace"

T. Now we are going to have some fun. The members of each team should pass each other a long heart necklace to wear. The first person in each line passes the necklace (one that goes down to the waist -a red heart tied to some yarn) to his or her neighbour. But you mustn't use your hands to pass your necklace, only heads. The process will continue until the necklace makes it to the last person in line. Once the necklace makes it to the last person they then send it back through the line in reverse order un­til the first person has the necklace again. The first group to complete the competition is the winner...

Well, and now the first team gets        points. The

second team gets  points. The third team

gets_ points.

 

V. The fourth competition
"A Secret Message"

T. After having some fun, let's try to decode a secret message. Use the code key to find the secret message. Let's start working... What a good job! The winner of this competition is Team 3. They get 5 points. Team 2 gets 4 points and Team 3 gets three points.

 

VI. The sixth competition "Good Advice"

T. Our next competition is to fill in the missing letters and get a piece of advice for your friend.

Let's start doing the task and the winner is … Team 2. They get          points. Team 1 gets … points. And at last Team 3 gets …points.

 

VII. Ending the lesson

T. I am happy to announce the results of our contest. The total score of the Team 1 is … Team 2 gets …        points in all. And the total score of the Team 3 is … points. Thus, our contest has finished with the score in favour of Team … but you all did your best to win. Congratulations to everybody!
